River Spirit - Spirited Away / Amy Millar

I chose this image to recreate because I loved the texture of him and knew it would be technically challenging.  I started with a pastillage mask and layered from there  I'm delighted to be part of this collaboration.

Haku - Spirited Away / Corinna Maguire, Lovin' From The Oven

Introducing Haku from the movie Spirited Away.  I was thrilled to do this piece as I saw the movie years ago and completely fell in love the with film and especially the river spirit, Haku’s character, who sometimes takes the form of a human boy.

To create this piece, I wanted to give Haku the appearance of floating and splashing over the water.  I used modelling wire, and rice crispie treats to build the structure and used pour sugar and isomalt to create the effect of the river and splashes.

The Bathhouse - Spirited Away / Gail Porter, Lizzie May's

I kept coming back to this scene when i was choosing my piece.  I loved all the colour and detail but it was really Chihiro who drew me in.  How small she looks in front of that huge, imposing building!  I created a large cookie base and all the decorative detail is piped by hand with royal icing.

Haku and Sen - Spirited Away / Madison Jean Cahill Byrne

My piece is from Spirited Away and shows Haku and Chihiro falling, following his transformation from a dragon.  I'm honoured to be part of this collaboration, which came from my Tokyo Ghoul inspired piece that was my entry, this year, at the Cork Sugarcraft competition.
I'm a third year student in Presentation Secondary School, Waterford.  I'm also a huge Studio Ghibli fan, I love Anime and Manga.

Kamaji - Spirited Away / Phil O'Regan, Flour Power Cakes

For my piece,I chose the boiler man named Kamaji who works in Yubaba's bath house.

I am surprised I picked such an arachnid looking character (as my biggest phobia is spiders!) but was glad I did after watching Spirited Away.I learned that beneath Kamaji's freakish appearance and gruff manner lay a kind, caring heart.

The saying 'Never judge a book by it's cover' came to mind.

Yubaba - Spirited Away / Sharon Fitzgerald, Bitchin' Bakes

I chose Yubaba from the film Spirited Away purely on aesthetics. What an amazing face she has, with her over sized head and her creased and craggy face.  Although many of the Studio Ghibli characters look amazing, I thought she would be so much fun to create in sugar.
